A Small Site Refresh

It’s been a little bit since I last updated this site, and I decided it was time for a few small changes. If you haven’t visited in a while, a lot of this might look new.

Why the Refresh?

My personal site has been through many iterations over the years. I think I first grabbed the domain sometime around 2010, maybe 2009 (I’m too lazy to check exactly). I used to have the .net version of the domain but once .com became available a friend of mine from the Infinity Engine modding community was kind enough to let me know, so I switched over.

Most of the iterations were focused on a particular design style or technology I was exploring at the time (Oh, skeuomorphism…you and Internet Explorer and I had some good times together). Sometimes it was a digital portfolio of work I’d done professionally. For a bit it was just a landing page and I believe for at least a year it just redirected to one of my social media accounts (now unused). One of the earlier versions was a Flash site. I still have the .swf and seeing it run using Ruffle was pretty delightful.

Anyway, I wanted the site to feel like my personal space on the web again, something a bit more reflective of the things I like to work on outside of my professional life. So if you’re looking for professional work or a portfolio, you won’t find much here. But if you’re interested in my hobby projects and random thoughts, you might enjoy poking around.

What Changed?

I won’t list every single detail, but you likely noticed I went with a very minimal design approach. I wanted to focus on content and readability and I made sure to include a light/dark mode toggle this time. I’ve always really liked the particular shade of blue used in the links and that’s been mostly consistent over the years. I think it’s slightly darker now for accessibility reasons, but it’s close enough to feel familiar.

From time to time, I might share updates or general thoughts about projects and other things here.

I also decided there needed to be some fun on the site, so I added an extremely exciting red ball to the homepage. Feel free to throw it - my dog, Pixel, will make an appearance as she loves to play. There’s an audio toggle as well - turn it on, click on Pixel, and enjoy the dulcet sounds of her barking her demands at you.

In Conclusion………

I love adding unnecessary ellipses to headings. It makes everything so ominous and dramatic. Also, there is a small easter egg hidden on the new site (desktop only, since it needs a keyboard!). I won’t spoil it here, but I hope you enjoy finding it.
